How You Can Help

Be the Heartbeat of Our Mission

Whether you’re an individual looking to give back, a group from a company, church, or school, or a young professional ready to make a difference, we have a place for you! There ae so many Volunteer Opportunities for Children in Crisis here. Here’s a snapshot of what you can dive into:

Direct Impact

  • Dinner Donation: Cook a hearty meal for 10-12 of our residents at your house OR come to the shelter and cook dinner or desserts WITH the residents (the kids love cooking, and it’s a great life skill). It’s a perfect activity for families or groups!
  • Outdoor Fun: When the weather warms up, come down to host a BBQ or a game of Volleyball!
  • Stuff a Sports Duffle: Gather sports gear in a bag for kids to enjoy outdoor activities. Remember, sizes for teens are super helpful!
  • Create an Activity Box: Pack a box with craft supplies for 12 lucky children and teens.
  • Share the Love Basket: Assemble a basket of necessities for shelter residents to celebrate special occasions.
  • Activities with Residents: Join us as we take the kids on an excursion out of the shelter! Sponsor a trip to a bowling alley, a pottery studio, or a museum with the kids.

Collections & Drives

  • Kids in Crisis Collections: Help us gather essentials like food, clothing, and toiletries. Check with us for our current needs list!
  • Sponsor a Holiday Wish: Bring joy during the festive season by fulfilling a child’s holiday wish list. (A typical wish list includes a new outfit, a coat, and a toy or game.)

Engagement & Education

  • Join the Youth Corps: If you’re a teen, raise awareness and organize drives through our Youth Corps.
  • SafeTalk Volunteers: Help facilitate workshops to prevent bullying and violence among elementary students.

Facility Upkeep

  • On-site Spruce-Ups: Lend a hand in maintaining our shelters by organizing, painting, or gardening while the kids are at school.
  • Project Days: Whether deep cleaning a room or decorating, your group can shine our facilities!

Special Events & Advocacy

  • Event Committees: Be a part of the team that helps organize our vital fundraising events.
  • Kids In Crisis Ambassadors: Represent us at community events and help spread the word about our services.

Be a Lighthouse Facilitator or Coordinator

Lighthouse, a program of Kids In Crisis, is a welcoming, inclusive, and safe space where lesbian, gay, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) teens and their allies meet weekly in a casual environment.  The Lighthouse Program is expanding by adding meetings in more locations in Fairfield County.  We are seeking committed adult volunteers to facilitate and/or to coordinate the meetings.  You will help to provide kids with a safe and nurturing space to be with their peers. Lighthouse prides itself on being an enlightened asset to the community and hope you will consider becoming a part of our growing team!
