Creating Inclusive Environments for Youth

Kids in Crisis: Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement

At Kids in Crisis, we are dedicated to creating inclusive environments for youth in every aspect of our work. Every child in Connecticut deserves a place where they feel safe, respected, and valued. Our mission is intricately linked to this vision, where diversity and fairness lead to better lives for our youth.

Our Commitment to Diversity: In our journey of creating inclusive environments for youth, we celebrate and embrace differences. Serving children of all ages, races, religions, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and socio-economic backgrounds is at the heart of our work. This diversity is mirrored in our team and Board of Directors, where 71% of our Leadership Team and 42% of Board Members are women.

Equity – The Path to Fairness: True equity is crucial in creating inclusive environments for youth. It’s about leveling the playing field and providing every child with the opportunities and resources they need to succeed, regardless of their background. Our efforts are focused on combating discrimination and ensuring equitable treatment for all.

Inclusion – Where Every Child Belongs: For us, “Creating Inclusive Environments for Youth” means ensuring that every child feels a sense of belonging. We actively celebrate diverse cultural holidays, provide targeted programs for LGBTQ+ youth, and ensure that our staff is trained in appreciating and respecting individual stories.

Our Actions for Inclusivity: Our commitment to DEI is reflected in tangible actions. From our emergency residential shelter staff to our comprehensive training programs focusing on immigration, racism, and human trafficking, every step we take is about creating inclusive environments for youth.

Continuous Improvement and Accountability: We’re committed to ongoing improvement in creating inclusive environments. We will regularly assess our progress, confront challenges, and be transparent about areas needing enhancement.

Our dedication to DEI is more than just words. It’s a living, breathing part of who we are, aimed at building a world where every child feels included, respected, and hopeful.
