This year, Kids In Crisis has made remarkable progress in its various programs, particularly in Stamford, celebrating a successful 2023 and setting ambitious goals for 2024.
TeenTalk Counselors: A Beacon of Hope
A highlight of 2023 was the impact of the TeenTalk Counselors at the Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE). Engaging with 80 students, these counselors have become a cornerstone of support, offering guidance and a listening ear to those in need. Their presence at AITE is more than just a service; it’s a lifeline for many students.
Expansion Plans for TeenTalk
Looking ahead to 2024, Kids In Crisis plans to expand the TeenTalk program to Stamford High and Westhill. This expansion aims to provide a consistent and nurturing environment for more students throughout the year, ensuring every child has the support they need.
ClubTalk Program: Extending Reach
The upcoming year will see the launch of the ClubTalk program at the Boys and Girls Club in Stamford. Modeled after TeenTalk, ClubTalk aims to bring essential counseling services into a community-based setting, reaching young people in environments where they feel most comfortable.
Lighthouse Program: Fostering Inclusivity
The Lighthouse Program, stationed at the Fish Church, continues to be a flagship initiative. As a peer-to-peer program, Lighthouse is dedicated to the well-being of LGBTQ+ youth and their allies. It’s a place where inclusivity and solidarity are encouraged and actively practiced, creating a safe space for all.
Broader Impact: SafeHaven and Crisis HelpLine
Kids In Crisis’ impact extends beyond Stamford. The SafeHaven emergency shelter remains the only service of its kind in Fairfield County, offering sanctuary to children in distress. The organization’s 24-hour Crisis HelpLine has been a lifeline for 670 individuals this year, proving its indispensable role in the community.
