2023: A Year of Success  

As the year draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on our incredible journey with the Kids In Crisis TeenTalk programs in Newtown, CT. Thanks to the unwavering support of donors like you, we’ve made a substantial difference in the lives of many young people. Making A Difference in Newtown High School 

This year at Newtown High School, we witnessed remarkable engagement: 

  • 82 Active Participants: We worked with 82 students in various support initiatives. 
  • Heartfelt Appreciation: The feedback from teachers, parents, and students has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the vital support provided by our program. 
Newtown Middle School: A Foundation for Growth 

Our presence in Newtown Middle School has been equally impactful: 

  • 40 Participants: Around 40 students benefited from our initiatives focused on social issues and personal development. 
  • Proactive Initiatives: We conducted lunch groups that played a pivotal role in building friendships, addressing social issues, and preparing students for high school. 
Expanding Our Reach 

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce: 

  • New Program Launch: Introducing a new middle school program to deepen our impact within the Newtown community. 
Beyond Newtown: A Broader Impact 

Our efforts extend beyond Newtown: 

  • SafeHaven Emergency Shelter: A sanctuary for distressed children, the only service of its kind in Fairfield County. 
  • 24-hour Crisis HelpLine: This vital resource provided a lifeline to 670 individuals this year.

Stories from our Newtown Counselors: 

Our counselors in Newtown have been extraordinarily active: 

  • Presentations and Lunch Groups: They have created presentations for the after-school program and mental health clubs and ran eight lunch groups for 7th and 8th graders. 
  • Collaborative Efforts: Participation in Western Coalition Drug-Free Schools meetings has allowed us to collaborate effectively with other mental health professionals. 
  • Support in Education: Our team supported NMS health teachers in Signs of Suicide Presentations and provided direct support to students in need.
