Supporting Greenwich Youth: A Vital Partnership with GDHS

Thanks to the ongoing partnership with the Greenwich Department of Human Services (GDHS), Kids In Crisis is supporting Greenwich youth with trusted, compassionate care when it matters most. From mental health counseling in schools to early intervention programs that keep kids out of the legal system, this collaboration is changing lives every day.

TeenTalk: Building Trust at Greenwich Middle Schools

TeenTalk counselors are a lifeline for students and their families. So far this year, the program has reached 161 students through one-on-one counseling and supported 222 parents. These aren’t just numbers, they represent real relationships and moments of healing.

One mother recently called our program supervisor after her daughter received help from a TeenTalk counselor. The student, who had been struggling with her mental health, was able to begin treatment with the support of both her counselor and her mom. She later got an emotional support dog, and insisted on naming the dog after her counselor! The counselor was recently recognized with the Difference Maker Award for her work supporting Greenwich youth and collaborating with school staff.

Another parent shared, “God knew what he was doing when he placed you in this profession. I feel better as a mother knowing my child has your support.” A third parent wrote, “Thanks again for your ongoing support. My child feels comfortable with you, and your help has been invaluable.”

These stories reflect the heart of what it means to support Greenwich youth—not only through professional care but also through meaningful human connection.

Keeping Kids on Track: Juvenile Review Board (JRB)

The JRB program gives young people a second chance. Outreach Counselors work directly with youth who may be heading down the wrong path, helping them avoid the court system and a permanent juvenile record. Through case management, mentorship, and access to pro-social activities, these young people are given the tools to succeed.

This is one more way Kids In Crisis is supporting Greenwich youth, not just in moments of crisis, but in building the foundation for brighter futures. The Greenwich Police Department continues to highlight this program’s positive impact, noting reduced recidivism and better outcomes for the youth involved.

Early Intervention: Interagency Team (IAT)

Through our IAT program, Outreach Counselors work with students referred by Greenwich Public Schools before legal issues arise. This early support often makes the difference between a child struggling in silence and a child who gets the help they need.

By walking alongside students and their families, our counselors provide critical services that help avoid school failure, emotional distress, and long-term consequences. Supporting Greenwich youth means offering real solutions before problems escalate—and that’s exactly what IAT delivers.
